One Month Checkup At Children’s

Rachel, Grandma and Mom spent Wednesday, September 24th, at Seattle Children’s Hospital visiting doctors and therapists, making sure Rachel is still healing well and making good progress in her various therapies. Over and over we had God’s blessing to be able to state, “No problems, walking is improving, eyesight has improved, school is going well, no medications, therapy is going well, and no other concerns. Life is nearly back to ‘normal’.” But there was one funny exchange with one of her doctors:

“How is your walking?”

“Good.”

“How is your eyesight?”

“Good.”

“How is your hearing?”

“Huh?”

As you may remember from an earlier post, Rachel has a tiny bit of hearing loss in her left ear, unrelated to the surgery. We’ll have a follow-up appointment in November to retest, but anticipate no other action will be necessary. The audiologist simply recommended Rachel sit close to the front of the classroom.

Rachel’s next follow-up visit will be towards the end of October when she will meet with neurosurgery and have an MRI.

We hope many of you will be able to join us for Rachel’s Celebration. We will have “Thank You” posters for the various departments that helped in Rachel’s surgery and recovery, and we would love to have as many signatures on them as possible. If you are unable to make the event but would like your name included on the poster, please post a comment on the website and we will be sure your name is added.

Thank you all, again, for your prayers and concern! We continue to see small evidences of continued healing in her body and mind. Many of you know/remember Rachel as quiet and withdrawn. Though she is still a bit shy, she is much more talkative and inquisitive. It is so much fun to get to know her again!
