Life with LEXI…

We had planned to go to Leavenworth, WA. for 3 nights, 4 days.  We arrived in Leavenworth on Monday night, spent Tuesday having a WONDERFUL girl’s trip!  Grammie, Mommy, Austin & Lexi.  Alexis has been having a raspy sounding cough for the last 2 weeks (since her scans on the 4th).  We all ate a great breakfast and then on the way back to our beautiful room, Alexis grabbed her chest and got really fussy.  We were staying at the Blackbird Lodge (thank you staff from the Blackbird for your help, care, card and for your prayers!)

After an odd morning nap, we walked outside for fresh air and my “mommy” instinct walked us straight across the street to the Leavenworth hospital.  She kept getting more lethargic and pale.  They hustled us right in, and said “She’s too sick for us to help her!”

After some panic and a little vomiting, they moved us by ambulance to the big hospital in Wenatchee.  Poor Austin and grammy fell apart (mommy’s melt down would have to wait).

On the way, her temp. reached 103.7, they started the testing in the ER.  We had amazing staff there (all the while, my heart was aching…is this relapse?…..)  It took hours to finally get an IV started and they took x-rays.  She was completely OUT OF IT!  She slept thru poke, after poke, and barely squawked.

The doctor in the ER,said the x-ray was clear and we needed to do a spinal tap, they also told us we could air-lift to Children’s and be there in 20 minutes.  The doctor talked to our oncologist and our DR. suggested we stay put and do the spinal tap for meningitis.  We agreed to do the procedure there.  When the dr. came in to do it, she said on review of the chest x-ray, the back showed it full of pneumonia.  She still wanted to proceed with the spinal.  The spinal came back clear, they did this while she was awake (kind of).

They admitted us and treated her for her pneumonia.  There were only 2 children (one was Lexi) in the hospital.  She was treated so well! (they spoiled her rotten, she loved it)  The hospital was amazing!  They were so good to Alexis and our family.  We checked out yesterday and we are back home.  She perked right up in the hospital after receiving her IV antibiotics and fluids.

She looks a little sick today, darker circles under her eyes. We are praying and hoping that this pneumonia is what showed on her CT scan and MIBG scan.  I asked the doctor “have you ever had a parent breathe a huge sigh of relief at the word “pneumonia”?”  She said she hadn’t…

Daddy came right across the mountain passes to join us at the hospital

and Grammy took care of Austin and gave her the “rest of our vacation”  with great memories and very special time together…thank you grammy!

Alexis spent the rest of the hospital stay entertaining the staff and being “herself”.  Thank you so much to everyone who took such wonderful care of our princess, thank you friends and family for praying in our time of need.  Thank you Lord for the quick recovery and sending such special angels our way.

Home to recover and clear out this “yuck”….10 days of antibiotics at home….

All is well and I need a VACATION!

“Life with Lexi”….never boring!
